2003_TO MUTATE, STRATEGIC PLAN FOR URBAN DEVELOPMENT, ROTTERDAM,
THE NETHERLANDS
Agniesebuurt, a mixed use district of housing, office, education and entertainment is located near Rotterdam
center. Surprisingly, it was almost disconnected from the city center by the superimposition of a railway track by transport
authority. The question to develop such an area is seemly that of how to reconnect agniesebuurt to rotterdam central fabric?
But by investigation, the proposal found that, indeed, the existence of Agniesebuurt is a sprawl extension from city
center to highway, a semi-marginal character. No need to reconnect actually.
The strategic solution is to develop within the area itself to employ the found cultural richness
by will to let the area mutate by its own tissue to maintain its own semi-marginal character. The suggestion is begun with
extracting hidden and obvious mechanismes of human activities then reorganize and reinsert them back into the fabric by providing
a set of relationship of 'Depending On','This or That','Side by Side','On Each Other' and 'On Its Own' to be regenerated by
people who live in Agniesesbuurt, who coming to and who passing by.
